This talk will focus on how to screen and diagnose insomnia disorder in older adults, with consideration of complex medical and mental health conditions. Delivery of cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) with consideration of adaptations needed for some older adults patients will be discussed, and new innovations in insomnia care will be highlighted.
Jennifer Martin, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist specializing in behavioral sleep medicine. She is Endowed Professor and Director of the Benjamin Leon Jr. Family Center for Aging Research and Education at Florida International University and the Director of the Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center at the Miami VA. Her research focuses on getting high quality care to patients with sleep disorders, including evidence-based treatments for insomnia in older people. Dr. Martin was recently honored with the VA's Health Systems Impact award, recognizing the role her research has played in improving healthcare for Veterans.
