LACPA’s Winter Book Club Selection:

The Midnight Library by Matt Haig

Book Summary:

The Midnight Library by Matt Haig introduces you to Nora Seed, a woman in between life and death.  Nora finds herself in a library, run by an old friend who serves as the librarian.  But this isn’t just an ordinary library.  Each book contains a different path her life might have taken had she made different choices.  The library offers Nora a chance to examine her regrets and an opportunity to reevaluate her decisions.  Ultimately Nora must examine within herself to explore what is fulfilling in her life.

The LACPA member who strongly recommended this novel, thought it was the best book she read in the past year, during a year when she has done a lot of reading.  She described it as well written and compelling.  Even months after finishing it, she found herself thinking about its messages.  She believes it will be of great interest and beneficial to psychotherapists, both personally and professionally.

Acknowledgments and a Sample of Amazon Reviews:

"An absorbing but comfortable read...a vision of limitless possibility, of new roads taken, of new lives lived, of a whole different world available to us somehow, somewhere, might be exactly what’s wanted in these troubled and troubling times.” —The New York Times

Thanks to the storytelling chops of writer Matt Haig, The Midnight Library is an engaging read, full of gentle insights and soothing wisdom… This is a book about shedding regret by gaining perspective. It’s full of quirky plot lines, with glimpses of opportunities and potential in unexpected places and people.” —Psychology Today

“Haig is one of the most inspirational popular writers on mental health of our age and, in his latest novel, he has taken a clever, engaging concept and created a heart-warming story that offers wisdom in the same deceptively simple way as Mitch Albom's best tales.” —Independent (UK)
