The Hiking Club was founded in 2006 by Dr. Stacy Berlin who enthusiastically led the group for several years.  Dr. Ryan Janis took over and ably led the club for several more years.  Dr. Andrea Ackerman took over leadership in June of 2011. Currently, hikes take place every other month on a Sunday morning at 9 am.  Hikes typically last 2-3 hours and range in difficulty from easy to just-moderate - in order to accommodate a wide range of fitness and experience levels.  The Hiking Club has proven to be a great way for LACPA members to connect with one another while having fun and exploring various hiking trails in the Los Angeles area. (Timeline 2012)

The club leader chooses a suitable trail within Los Angeles County, making an effort to vary the locations (e.g., Griffith Park area, San Gabriel Mountains, Santa Monica Mountains off the beach and from the west valley).  Each trail is carefully scouted to ensure that it is easy to locate and navigate and not too strenuous or dangerous in any way. All trails are well designated and traveled paths. The leader posts club meeting dates and locations on the LACPA listserv 3-4 times prior to the club meetings.
