Reflecting on 2024

As 2024 draws to a close, I am filled with gratitude to be part of a community so deeply committed to making the world a better place. As I conclude my year as president, I do so with the hope that mental health will continue to be universally recognized as a fundamental human right. It has been an incredible honor to lead this one-of-a-kind organization, alongside the Executive Committee, Board of Directors, committees, leaders, and staff, all of whom have made this year a success.

In a polarized world, our collective strength and purpose have shone brightly in the life-changing work we’ve accomplished together. Here are just a few highlights from our efforts this year:

  • LACPA committees organized 23 in-person and 14 virtual events.
  • LACPA clubs hosted 5 in-person and 8 virtual events.
  • Special Interest Groups held 37 virtual meetings.
  • Continuing Education workshops in 2024 included 3 in-person5 virtual, and 1 hybrid event, offering a total of 37 hours of CE.
  • LACPA collaborated with more than 10 organizations (including AAPA, CHLA, CPA, CSUN, IPAA, LAPL, LBCIL, SDPA, SGFD, and others) to promote human rights, advocate for mental health, and advance the science of psychology.
  • LACPA leadership held 12 Executive Committee meetings and 8 Board of Directors meetings.

Looking ahead to 2025, we will celebrate LACPA's 80th anniversary. Our incoming president, Dr. Cris Scaglione, will lead us through this milestone year. The annual convention will shift from Fall to Spring, and our Celebratory Convention and joyful observance of LACPA's 80th Anniversary will take place on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at the Hilton Woodland Hills. Please mark your calendars for this special event, which will feature an inspiring keynote speaker, delicious food, live music, networking opportunities, and so much more.

May 2025 bring us renewed hope, peace, and continued progress in our shared mission. My heartfelt wishes to you and yours for a meaningful and joyous holiday season.
