Guest speaker, Mariel Ruiz Stasiuk, M.A., will discuss multicultural issues in sport psychology. She will share her experiences as a practicing sport psychologist in Mexico, where she worked with Olympic athletes and other high-level performers. She then moved to the United States and had to start her career over as a student while also overcoming language and cultural barriers. 

Mariel Ruiz Stasiuk is currently entering the third year of her Psy.D. doctoral program in Clinical Psychology from California School of Professional Psychology in San Diego, California. Mariel holds Master's degrees in Clinical Psychology from Alliant International University, and Performance Psychology from National University, as well as a BA in both Sport Psychology and Clinical Psychology. Her research interests include resilience, optimism, and stress in endurance athletes.

She has been licensed and practicing psychology in Mexico for over 10 years, specializing in Sport Psychology. She has extensive experience working with athletes of all ages and levels including professional and Olympic level athletes focusing on performance improvement. Her involvement in the mental performance community includes work with Mexican athletes of the 2011 Pan-American Games, 2016 IMG internship team, and most recently the United States Army providing services to members and their families as a Master Resilience and Performance Expert. As an avid sports fanatic, Mariel enjoys competitive cycling, running, swimming, and tennis, and like the athletes she works with, she is dedicated to personal improvement and success.
