Topic: The Impact of Health Issues on
Couples Relationships
RSVP required by the morning of  Thursday, June 4.

Most of us enter into relationships with optimism and hopes of long, happy lives together. Wedding vows often include the phrases “for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health.”  But what does it really mean to stick with someone through sickness?

With approximately 50% of the population dealing with one or more chronic illnesses, you will almost inevitably find out. If it’s not you, it’s many of your clients. It may be a straightforward condition that requires a daily pill for treatment, such as high blood pressure, something much more complex and devastating, such as cancer, or lifestyle limiting conditions, such as autoimmune conditions, back problems, or diabetes.

In this candid, practical presentation, Dr. Gretchen Kubacky will address the types of health issues that most typically arise in midlife couples, the effects of chronic and terminal illness on relationships, and ways that psychologists can utilize a growth-oriented perspective to incorporating the health issues into effective couples therapy.

Guest Speaker:  Dr. Gretchen Kubacky
