Dear LACPA Members,

*This Hike has been cancelled due to rain and will be re-scheduled soon!*

Here are the details for our next LACPA Hiking Club outing. We will be hiking the Victory Trailhead Loop Trail, a 5.1 mile pretty easy loop that traverses a small but beautiful portion of the Ahmanson Ranch Preserve, located in the west San Fernando Valley. Lee and I hiked the trail this morning, and it is magnificently green right now. This is a good trail for those of you who don’t hike but would like to, as there are no really significant ascents and descents, and no difficult terrain to navigate. That being said, there are some hills and valleys; we will be on fire roads and some smaller trails; and the distance is 5+ miles. It took us 2 hours to complete the loop with no stops. So plan on about 2.5 hours for our group to complete the loop.

Hiking shoes are recommended, but trail shoes or tennis shoes with good tread should be fine. Please bring water and a snack. Please wear sunscreen and a hat. We will stop briefly along the way to drink, snack and take photos.

Directions: From US 101 in either direction, take the Valley Circle Blvd. exit and head north on Valley Circle Blvd. for about 2.1 miles. Turn left on Victory Boulevard and take Victory Boulevard to the very end (.7 miles); the road ends at a large iron fence/gate that is the entrance to the trailhead parking lot. It should be open and you can continue a short distance into the parking lot, or park on Victory Blvd., Gilmore Drive or County Oak Road just below the fence/gate and then walk in to reach the trailhead. The entrance to the parking lot has a large wooden sign that says Victory Trailhead. The posted parking fee is $3.00, but today there were no envelopes to facilitate paying for parking and placing the receipt on your dash. If you want to assure that you are not ticketed, or you feel strongly about supporting the park service, please bring $3.00 and an envelope, and write your license number on the envelope before you place it in the “iron ranger” located at the entry to the parking lot. (If you need directions from another location, you can put Victory Trailhead into WAZE and it will come up as a destination.)

RSVP PLEASE: Please RSVP to [email protected] and let me know if you plan to join us. I have already heard from a few of you and look forward to more of you joining in. Please include your cell phone number so I have it on hand in case of any last minute changes.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Warmly,
Andi Ackerman
LACPA Hiking Club Leader
