Title: MARS Approach to Mental Training When Working with Performing Artists

Presenter: Jacob Jensen, Ph.D.

Description:
In this talk, the presenter will discuss the MARS© approach to mental training and its application for working with a performing artist population, specifically actors. This approach focuses on the concepts of mindfulness, accountability, resiliency, and stability. The presenting author incorporates the MARS© approach into his consulting work with actors and will provide examples and discussion of how specific exercises and interventions are beneficial, particularly to performing artists. Topics addressed will include how mindfulness techniques help actors prepare for auditions and roles, the importance of accountability to self and the business side of the profession, resiliency in facing constant rejection and evaluation, and continued stability in fine-tuning and growing the body as an instrument. Specific case studies will be presented to illustrate the effectiveness of these MARS© techniques and how they can be applied to actors and performing artists.

"The opinions of presenters at informal forums, such as Special Interest Groups (SIGs) or club meetings, and their approach to psychological issues and interventions do not represent a formal endorsement of any position by the Los Angeles County Psychological Association or its members.  The opinions, ideas, and concepts expressed are purely those of the presenter."
