The Santa Clarita Valley Networking Group invites you to an evening of: Exploring Tabletop RPGs as Therapeutic Tools: A Hands-On Introduction for Therapists Thursday, November 7 from 7-8:30 pm Have you ever had a client mention playing role-playing games like Dungeons & Dragons and wondered how these games might be integrated into your therapeutic practice? Join us for this exciting opportunity to explore the therapeutic potential of tabletop role-playing games (RPGs) while also experiencing the gameplay firsthand. Curious how RPGs can be used to enhance therapy? This evening will provide a space to discuss the benefits and applications of these games in a clinical setting. You’ll also get the chance to step into the shoes of a player and participate in a one-shot adventure using a simplified version of Dungeons & Dragons. No prior experience with role-playing games is required; tailored for beginners, providing a taste of what it’s like to engage in a collaborative storytelling experience. Whether you want to better understand your clients' interests or explore a new therapeutic tool, this evening will be both informative and enjoyable! Our facilitator will be LACPA member, Nicole Connolly, Ph.D. who is a licensed psychologist in private practice based in Santa Clarita, CA. She earned her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from UCLA and completed a postdoctoral fellowship specializing in autism spectrum disorders at the Help Group in Sherman Oaks, CA. In her private practice, Dr. Connolly focuses on treating severe anxiety disorders and OCD, while also helping neurodivergent individuals thrive.
Dr. Connolly has a passion for integrating geek culture into her therapeutic work. As a certified therapeutic game master, she often utilizes elements of role-playing games to assist clients in achieving their therapeutic goals. Outside of her practice, she enjoys indulging in her own geeky hobbies, including playing video games and tabletop role-playing games, as well as spending quality time with her equally geeky husband and children.
Attendance is very limited. We will be playing in a local game shop.
